POETRY CLASS 2026

Co-organized by Just Keep Writing Club and Saigon Writers’ Society

This is a creative environment for emerging poets to learn about the art of writing, experiment with their personal style, and craft unique works under professional guidance. Every participant will have their poem featured in a collective zine.

About the Instructor

Kelsey Fuson (Bug) from Saigon Writers’ Society is an American poet and teacher currently living in HCMC. She has been writing since her teenage years and has been leading writing workshops as well as hosting open mic events for nearly two years. She has served as a reader and editor for various literary magazines, including Okay Donkey and Crashtest Magazine. You can read some of her poetry and prose in Eunoia Review, HAD, LandLocked Magazine, Vulnerary magazine, and many other publications.

Course Details

Location: WorkMode Cafe – 23Bis Nguyen Khac Nhu, Cau Ong Lanh Ward, HCMC.
Language: All activities in the course will be in the English language.
Materials: All reading materials will be provided.
Class Size: Maximum 10 participants.

Course Objectives

Each participant will write and revise 3–5 poems, then submit a collection to be published in the collective zine (even if you only attend a single session).
Each participant will receive one free printed copy of the zine featuring their poem(s), with the option to purchase additional physical copies at cost.
Reading materials will be sent to participants one week prior to each session.

Tuition

Single session registration: 350,000 VND / session.
Full course (6 sessions): 2,000,000 VND / person (includes all learning materials, instruction fees, and the printed zine).
Early Bird Discount: 10% off if registered before October 3rd (only 1,800,000 VND for all 6 sessions or 315,000 VND / single session).

Nothing Wants to Suffer, poem by Danusha Laméris 4. The Abandoned Hotel, poem by Schomburg 5. You Mean You Don’t Weep at the Nail Salon?, poem by Elizabeth Acevedo	1. Receive 40 prompts to write plenty of poems. 2. Submit all written pieces to Kelsey. 3. Bring 1–2 poems to Session 2 for feedback.
Session 2 Oct 17	Write, Write, and Write	1. Critiquing 1–2 poems from each student. 2. Receiving feedback from peer classmates. 3. Reading a selection of Imagism poems.
Session 3 Oct 24	Imagism	1. William Carlos Williams: The Red Wheelbarrow and Blizzard 2. Amy Lowell: Bath and The Blue Scarf	Write an Imagist poem.
Session 4 Oct 31	Imagist Poetry Feedback	1. Receiving feedback from peer classmates.	1. Send Kelsey at least one poem by a poet you’ve never read before. 2. Write your own poem in response or in a similar style.
Session 5 Nov 7	Writing in Another’s Style	1. Discussion on writing in another’s style. 2. Discussion on your poems and their connection to the found poems. 3. Select a set of 3–5 poems to submit for the zine.
Session 6 Nov 14	Poetry Cover Letters & Zine Discussion	1. Poetry Cover Letters: How to find foreign literary magazines (The worst they can do is reject you). (Note: Excludes book/poetry collection publishing or self-publishing) 2. Workshop Practice: 50% 3. Zine Discussion: 50% (How do you want our zine to look?)	Submit 1 poem / set of poems for publication.
